- The Ogunquit Playhouse
- Tuesday 3rd of August 2010
John Lane’s Ogunquit Playhouse, one of Southern Maine’s most important cultural landmarks, brings Broadway to the Beach each season. Opening in 1933, the work and vision of Walter and Maude Hartwig brought an outstanding, star-studded performing arts company to Ogunquit. Continuing this tradition for almost five decades, John Lane, owner and producer of the Playhouse, sought to provide his audience with the finest professional theatre in our region.
In doing so, he successfully placed the playhouse on the national cultural map. Set to retire after 45 years, John Lane spearheaded the effort to form a non-profit foundation to oversee the future of the Playhouse. The Ogunquit Playhouse Foundation, formed in 1997, is now the proud owner and trustee of the historic Ogunquit Playhouse.Shows featured this season on the main stage are The Drowsy Chaperone, The Sound of Music, Sunset Boulevard, Monty Python’s Spamalot, and Chicago.
